Faux finishing is the art of using paint to create the illusion of texture or depth on otherwise flat surfaces, such as walls and furniture. The word Faux is ‘false.’ It is all about creating a three-dimensional look on a surface. The techniques of faux finishing give the illusion of depth on surfaces that would otherwise be flat. It gives a sense of looking into the wall. It is usually composed of more than one color glaze application, and usually with transparent layers on top, so that one can see parts of the base color underneath. Any number of textures can be created, adding drama, and creating illusions that are timeless.
